Thursday, July 25th at the Salle Multifonctionelle Denis-Richard, Jack de Keyzer offers a tribute to the three King Blues, Freddie, Albert and BB KING. One of Canada’s finest guitarist, vocalist, Jack de Keyzer is a two-time Juno Award winner and seven-time Maple Blues virtuoso guitarist, singer and singer-songwriter. *Jack de Keyzer plays blues around the world.Arctic Circle in Puerto Escondido, Mexico; from Athens, Greece, to Hornby Island, British Columbia. One of Canada’s most award-winning and most sought-after stage artists and guitarists, Jack de Keyzer has released twelve CDs and one DVD. He has also performed on hundreds of recordings and live sessions with artists ranging from Etta James to Ronnie Hawkins and Bo Diddley to Blue Rodeo. However, if de Keyzer has to cite a model, he is more likely to identify with B.B. King, if only for his admirable longevity, the diversity of his inspiration, not to mention the mastery of his instrument. « The more I play the guitar, the more I try to expand my palette, to deepen my vocabulary.
“The finest blues guitarist in Canada” – Jeff Healey
“If Jack de Keyzer was from Chicago, New York or LA, he’d be famous.” Bob Dylan
The Festival Blues d’la Baie will continue in the Grand Chapiteau behind École Le Tournesol, where spectators will be captivated by the Blues.
On Friday, July 26th, we are proud to present two of Quebec’s best Blues artists for a very special evening. Harmonicist-virtuoso Guy Bélanger with his band of elite and the electrifying Paul DesLauriers Band who has recently performed on the European and American scenes the new repertoire for his next album. During this frenzied evening, Belanger and DesLauriers will also play some songs together with none other as guest artist Kim Richardson. An exceptional evening in perspective !
The Paul DesLauriers Band is proud to have won the award for Entertainer of the Year (Artist of the Year) for a second year in a row at the 21st Maple Blues Awards! It is really in their performance on stage that we can appreciate the group at its fair value. Paul DesLauriers’ fiery guitar playing combined with Sam Harrisson’s polyrhythmic adventures and Greg Morency’s sinuous bass lines confirm that while the Paul DesLauriers Band is one of Canada’s most sought-after bands, they are no strangers to this state of mind. In fact, thanks to their extraordinary musical interaction, their power and their great creativity, this Montreal-based Canadian band mixes rock and blues, reminiscent of the big bands of the late ’60s and early ’70s such as Humble Pie, Cream, Led Zeppelin and Foghat. « The musicians’ game is incendiary and there is no limit where this blues rock can go. » Midwest Record, USA – July 2016
Guy Bélanger won « Harmonicist of the Year » at the 21st Toronto Maple Blues Award 2018. And what THEY SAID … In the pure tradition of harmonicists who do not need special effects to be understood! Christophe Rodriguez Journal of Mtl … His harmonica is a voice always human, very warm. Annie Soleil Proteau (Culture Club) Radio-Canada. … Somewhat unusually, two-time MBA winner John Paul II, John Valenteyn, Toronto Blues Society Maple Blues
Kim Richardson began her career at a very young age, first as an actress and dancer in theaters in the Toronto area. With her captivating voice and boundless energy, Kim Richardson will transport you to her musical world, spiced with jazz, blues, soul, rock and R & B. Her ease and versatility on stage are the result of more than 30 years of career, three Juno Awards, and multitude tours around the world with the greatest singers. Kim enjoys showing off her many vocal talents in this solo singing tour, accompanied by her seasoned musicians. With such a voice and talent, it’s no wonder that Kim Richardson has been praised since entering the Canadian music scene. Kim Richardson proves that the passion, energy and creativity that has driven her since her debut are more ardent than ever.
On Saturday, July 27th, the Festival Blues d’la Baie promises a magical atmosphere with none other than Brian Tyler who became known at the first edition of La Voix and had impressed more than one. He will be present with his band, The Bluestorm. Brian Tyler has an incredible presence on stage with his haunting voice and his crazy charisma. Musical battles between the raging musicians give a funny tone to the show. Recipient of 5 Lys Blues trophies in 2014, following 7 nominations for the band, more than 400,000 tickets sold in 2013 alone and high profile performances such as: Live from the Universe, Belle & Bum, Skate Mania and Bell Center, Brian Tyler and The Bluestorm prove day after day, that he is the major force in the field of Blues in Quebec. Since 2013, Brian and the Bluestorm have performed in front of full-fledged crowds wherever they go.
Again Saturday, July 27th under the big top, from Brazil, The Blues Beatles – an original group consisting of Marcos Viana, Flavio Naves, Lancaster Ferreira, Bruno Falcão and Fred Barley. Singer Marcos Viana started playing acoustic guitar and playing the Beatles. The other members of the group were amazed at how natural the songs seemed as if he had written them himself. The reason is that Marcos Viana really identified with the songs and never imitated John or Paul. He simply sang with his own voice and his heart. As blues players, the rest of the band started adding a touch of blues to these « broken songs ». One day, Lancaster Ferreira said, Let’s call us the Blues Beatles! Everyone loved the idea and together they launched the Blues Beatles in 2013.
Ticket To Ride is their first version of the Beatles songs that caught the attention of its followers. The video now has over two million views on Facebook. The arrangements combine blues and soul rhythms that are appropriate for singing songs while giving them a different feel. Instrumental solos and improvisation, typical blues elements, are an integral part of the Blues Beatles’ style. Their fiery performances highlight their individual and collective skills as soloists. The blues aspect of the group is deeply rooted. Blues Beatles’ guitarist Lancaster Ferreira is a pioneer of Chicago blues in Brazil, with a 30-year career and six CDs released since 1996. Flavio Naves has released two CDs, was invited as such and was the first Blues musician to devote himself to mastering the Hammond B3 organ in Brazil. Fred Barley is one of the country’s most renowned drummers. His incredible technique influenced a legion of young drummers. He is constantly solicited as a session player in the studio and on stage. Bruno Falcão is the kind of bass player who can knock down a wall. A reference on the blues scene in Brazil, his traveling basslines defy the laws of physics: they are fluid and solid at the same time. It lays the foundations and grooves that give the Beatles Blues a powerful and contagious sound.
